ISSY POP!
Despite a magnificent 124 from debutant wicket keeper-batsman
Issy (a club record I believe), the Pimlico Strollers maintained
their 100% record - four games, four defeats.
Last Sunday the Strollers were represented by probably their
youngest eleven in ten years featuring a staggering seven
debutants as the primarily North London players
opted to spend more time with the kids. The Cudley Alms won
the toss and elected to bat on a true but bouncy Roehampton
Rec ground. Despite the excellent blend of youth
(in the outfield) and experience (in the slips), the
Strollers could not contain the Chigleys' batsmen who amassed
a 272 for seven in their 35 overs. JJ proved the most economical
bowler with 1 for 26 off 7 overs and Simon B (two wickets)
and Bruce, Ben and Matt (one) were rather more expensive.
Special mention for Bill's fielding - two catches and a run
out.
The Strollers innings started slowly with the loss of two
early wickets. Matt's 27 (not Morgan) and Paul's 26 got the
momentum moving before Issy set about showing the rest of
us how to bat. Sixes were dispatched - with care - to
all areas of the ground as he moved effortlessly to a well-deserved
ton. Unfortunately no-one could stick around to support his
effort and the Strollers fell short of the target - all out
for 215. Champagne moment was probably when Chapley's opening
bowler Clem caught Issy on the boundary only to step over
the line in doing so.
Thanks to Alex, Paul, Aslam (not the Lion), Ed, Ben, Bill,
Issy and Matt for playing - see you in Crouch End soon!
