Strollers get into a pickle and fall short against Ploughmans
posted: August 23, 2022

Our recent winning streak sadly came to an end on Sunday when, in search of our sixth successive victory, we fell just 10 short of reaching the target of 190 set by the Ploughmans XI at Dulwich Sports Ground.

With the home side batting first in a longform 40 over match, we did well to restrict the oppo to a sub-200 score with Davie G in particular standing out amongst our attack, collecting 3-28 taking the key wickets of Curtis and Fletcher who both looked well set for a big score.

However, our reponse faltered. Having lost both George and Ron early on, Viral and Varun helped restore our compsure but were both dismissed in the 30s – the former bizerrely being caught out by Gaurav, fielding for the oppo! (With friends like that etc... – Ed).

With both Abhik and Gaurav stumped off Stephenson without troubling the scorers our middle order crumbled and although, with Batesy, Rohit gamely attempted to bring us home, he was run out to ultimately leave us stranded just 9 shy of the 189-6 posted by the Ploughmen earlier in the afternoon... thus snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Hopefully just a glitch in the matrix...
