We made a valiant effort for the draw in Chippenham, having restricted
them to 209 off 49 overs with disciplined bowling and decent fielding, with notable
spells from Messrs Holmes and Masters JJ.
Unfortunately we were never really in the chase for the maiden
victory, but we nearly hung on, finally losing our last wicket with two overs
of play remaining.
As usual there was some extraordinary stuff in and out of the
pub afterwards:
Chris Deavin, not realising he was talking to the landlady where
we were staying, replying "Well it's not exactly the Ritz, is it?" to
her friendly inquiry as to the quality of his room.
Matt Morgan, inventor of the Chippenham Iced Tea and George Brown,
for the naked Haka in the Tharp
...to name but a few.
