Beware the Village duck pond...

The 2011 season got off to a shocking start in our opening clash of the year at Ferme Park against The Village. Having won the toss, new skipper Spencer naturally chose to bat first in the warm sunny conditions. However this was to prove our last dose of good fortune as the top six were skittled with no less than four ducks, leaving us 24-5 after the first ten overs. Fortunately the lower middle order put up some resistance as Big Gav made the most of The Village's slower second string of bowlers, firing the ball to all parts on his way to a lusty 32 with excellent support from Andy Moorhouse who hit a valuable 23, including a glorious maiden 6 over long on. A spirited last wicket stand of 48 between Jeremy Gillies and Jimmy Connell — who unleashed his Mongoose to hit a feiry 31 — edged the Strollers' total up to an almost respectable 149 all out.
In reply, The Village got off to a faltering start with Jez claiming two early wickets including the fairly amusing dismissal of Morgans who was clean bowled behind his legs! However, this was to mark the end of the Strollers resurgance as opener Harty weighed in with a ferocious onslaught of boundaries, easing any worries his Village team mates may have had of collapse. With a huge six over mid wicket to bring up his century Morgans took his side over the winning line in just the sixteenth over, leaving us Strollers with much to ponder for the season ahead.
