Honours even in Erratics clash
posted: May 4, 2015
The second match of the season at Ferme Park yesterday saw the Strollers share the spoils with opposition the London Erratics. Despite a soggy pitch caused by overnight rain, upon being put in to bat, after the loss of the opening pair Spencer expertly notched up his first ton of the season supported by Matt who continued his fine run of early season form with a superb 62. However, the scoring rate remained slowish and, in the interests of pushing the game on, after the eighth wicket fell, the skipper decided to declare on a respectable 228.
After an early flurry of boundaries, the Erratics response was well pegged back by messrs Boughey and Reeve — the latter returning an excellent spell of 2-23 from 8 overs. A couple more wickets fell but, despite two unfortunate drops, there were not enough chances to force a win as it was clear the Erratics ambition to win the game had gone and the run rate slowed accordingly. However this afforded our own Tim Sturm (kindly turning out for the oppo to even up the numbers) an opportunity to get some time in the middle and notched up a solid 41 not out (...not that that will trouble his average — Ed). In the end the match crawled to the inevitable draw but, more positively, continued our unbeaten start to the 2015 campaign.
