Depleted Strollers mown down by Gardeners
A threadbare Strollers side took to the field over the Bank Holiday weekend against relatively new opposition in the shape of the Gardeners. With only half a dozen regulars and the help of kindly fielders lent from the oppo, it came as no surprise that the Gardeners batsmen - in particular centurion De Jesus - were able to make hay having won the toss on a sunny afternoon at North London CC.
However, those Strollers that were in attendance valiantly hung in there and choked off the run rate before a truly impassable Gardeners total could be reached. Highlight of the day came when young Daniel Betts (offspring of the Legend), playing in his senior team début, claimed a first ball wicket, trapping the hapless Nisbett LBW.
A spirited batting performance then followed with a fiery 34 from Big 'on a deadline' Gav, ably supported by Tim (22) and then some good strokeplay from Graeme (29). However, despite a decent run rate, wickets fell and, on 175-7 the Strollers simply ran out of remaining batsmen and were forced to concede defeat.
