Chippers reclaim bragging rights in sunny sizzler
All good things must come to an end sometime and so it was yesterday as the Strollers' 5 year unbeaten run against Chippenham came to an end in a match played in baking hot conditions in the delightful Cambridgeshire sunshine.
With George winning the toss and naturally choosing to bat first the side posted a respectable 216 all out in the face of nearly 50 overs of probing and penatrative Chippenham bowling - especially from young Eddie Waites who claimed no less than 6 wickets. Nevertheless, contributions were made all the way down the order - 33 from the skipper followed by some valiant middle order batting from Andy (30), Graeme (34) and Tim Sturm (pictured at the crease) who carried his bat on 43 not out on his Chippers début. However, despite a wobbly start with the Strollers pinning them back to 15-2, the home side's batsmen were in imperious form, carting the Strollers' bowlers to all corners and bloodying Tim's nose in the process when a difficult chance was put down at a long off. In the end Chippenham romped past the winning line with some 14 overs to spare.
