Strollers dominate in Codicote clash
posted: August 22, 2010
The Strollers' fine late season form continued today with another assured away win against newfound opposition Codicote CC in darkest Hertfordshire.
George won the toss and uncharacteristically opted to field first (rightly suspecting the weather would improve as the day wore on) and initially it looked as though Codicote were on to post a commanding total, as they raced to 76 without loss off the first ten overs. However, when George switched to spin, the momentum of the game shifted drastically as wickets began to tumble in quick succession. An excellent all round effort in the field saw no less than seven catches successfully taken and when James hurled down the final wicket to execute a dramatic run out, the Strollers felt rightly satisfied to have dismissed the opposition for a modest 147 all out.
The Strollers response wobbled at the start with the early loss of openers Gav and George but, after the further dismissal of Matt, Spencer and Tim quickly laid to rest any fears of a embarassing collapse and began to work the ball around to all corners with ease. With measured attack, Spencer (pictured above) yet again turned on the style as he powered his way to a personal best 84 not out and took the side over the winning line with a lusty blow to long off for four. An exemplary win and once again a man of the match award winning performance from the vice skipper!
Thanks again to Codicote for hosting the match at such short notice. We very much hope to return again next year!
