The Strollers' recent winning streak unforunately came to an end yesterday when Beamers won by 5 wickets at Ferme Park. George won the toss and elected to bat in fine midsummer conditions but, despite having only one wicket down at the 20 over mark, the innings never really caught fire as the Beamers attack consistently found an accurate line. Nevertheless, Spencer hit a finely crafted 63 and Tim once again missed out on a long overdue half century when, on 43, he holed out to a spectacularly taken catch in the deep at long on.
With 200 to chase, Beamers' response was equally laboured as, thanks to early wickets from Graeme and some superb probing bowling from Simon and débutant Abdul at the other end, the opposition were only able to reach 77-2 at the halfway point of their innings. From then on, however, the Beamers batsmen clicked into gear and despite a couple of late wickets the target was reached with 3 overs to spare.
