Having made his debut for the Strollers in the late nineties, “Bucket Hands” Lucas mysteriously went AWOL for several years before returning to the side in 2006 to resume his duties at short cover – a position he has unquestionably made his own, breathing hellfire down the throats of incoming batsmen who are clearly terrified at the sight of his hulking 6’4” frame within their field of vision – almost as terrified as successive Strollers skippers have been of asking him to field elsewhere. An enthusiastic sledger and also an explosive batsman, but with a style more closely resembling Babe Routh than Bradman, Lucas’ ascension to the captaincy for the 2009 season could herald the dawn of a new era of cavalier calypso cricket for the Strollers!
